Why is it best to use acrylic paint for paint by numbers?

Acrylic paint is one of the most versatile paints and one of the least toxic, in other words, there are less strong and nasty chemicals in it then some other paints.

• Acrylic paint is water soluble when wet, so if you find your paint has dried up a little bit (if you leave the lid off for too long) you can just add a bit of water to it to loosen it up again.
• Acrylic paint gives Paint by Numbers a nice smooth finish. This is because acrylic paint dries in into a flexible, water resistant and durable surface which is easy to add additional layers of paint to.
• For those who are experience at Paint by Numbers and ready to get a bit more creative, acrylic paint allows for texture by lumping it, dotting it or painting very thickly. For instance, you can’t get any kind of 3-dimensional texture using water colours.
• Acrylic paint is perfect for paint by numbers because it is thick enough to cover those black indicator lines. You can may need one or two coats when using lighter paint colours though.
• Another benefit of acrylic paint for Paint by Numbers is that it’s fast drying. So you can quickly finish one colour and then move onto the next.

How to Seal Paint by Numbers using Mod Podge Gloss Sealant.

In our previous blog post, we promised we would give you some tips on sealing you finished Paint by Numbers creations with Mod Podge Gloss. So here are our top tricks and tips.

As mentioned previously, sealing your Paint by Numbers creation can really help to give it that professional and complete look. It will also prolong the life of your painting.

Step one: This might be obvious, but make sure your Paint by Numbers is 100% dry before you attempt to seal it!

Step two: Apply the first coat of varnish with a wide brush. Apply in a thin and even coating. Mod Podge dries quickly so try and work relatively fast. Be sure to paint the gloss on in the same direction (all strokes horizontal or all strokes going vertically).

Step Three: Let the first coat dry for at least 15 minutes.  Apply the second coat in the opposite direction to the first coat! Apply a third coat if you would like.
